David Vest has been nominated for a Maple Blues Award for the 12th consecutive year in the piano/keyboard player of the year category. Winners will be announced on January 30, 2023.
David Vest was named Piano/Keyboard Player of the Year at the Maple Blues Awards on June 20. The ceremony, presented by the Toronto Blues Society, took place in Koerner Hall at the Royal Conservatory of Music. It was the sixth win in ten years for Vest in this category.

Two new albums by David Vest, Live At Hermann’s and Live In Calgary, both landed in the top ten of Roots Music Report’s chart for Canada this week, debuting at #6 and #8. The chart tallies spins by Canadian artists on roots radio worldwide. Vest is believed to be the oldest artist to have two current albums chatting simultaneously in the top ten in any category.
Cordova Bay Records released two new David Vest albums on October 1, Live In Calgary and Live At Hermann’s. Reviewing Live At Hermann’s for the Toronto Blues Society, Gary Kendall said, “This is an outstanding live recording. David Vest continues to show the world that his creative output is limitless.” Eric Thom, reviewing Live In Calgary, said, “This release underlines that ‘live’ remains the best Vest of all.”
During the pandemic, David Vest is appearing on monthly live streams from Hermann’s Jazz Club in Victoria, BC. Upcoming shows are set for April 24, May 15, June 26. All performances begin at 7pm and can be watched via the Hermann’s Jazz Club channel on either YouTube or Vimeo.
The David Vest Trio will perform another evening of Thelonious Monk’s music at Hermann’s Jazz Club on Saturday, August 29. The trio, featuring Ryan Tandy on bass and Damian Graham on drums, will perform for a small live audience as well as for online streaming. Full details can be found here.
