David Vest Wins Second Maple Blues Award

Cordova Bay recording artist David Vest has again won the Maple Blues Award for Piano/Keyboard Player of the Year.

The winners of the Eighteenth Annual Maple Blues Awards, Canada’s national blues awards program, were announced at the Annual Maple Blues Awards Gala in Toronto, on Monday, January 19, 2015 at Koerner Hall at the Royal Conservatory of Music.

It is the Victoria-based pianist’s second win and his fourth consecutive nomination, capping a year that saw his first release on Cordova Bay Records, Roadhouse Revelation, reach Number One in the Roots Music Charts for Canada.

In thanking the Toronto Blues Society for the honour, Vest noted that the first to win the award twice was his hero, Van “Piano Man” Walls, who recorded with Big Joe Turner.

“I think something like this lets people know that I’m here to stay,” said Vest, adding that he is “proud to be a part of the Canadian music scene.”

The Maple Blues Award will be on display when Vest performs with his band at Hermann’s Jazz Club in Victoria on January 31.
